Jinnat murder: Suspect NCP leader, 2 others held

RAB-13 has arrested Liakat Hossain Limon, 23, the main accused in the Zahidul Islam Jinnat murder case, from Sreepur area in Gazipur.

He was arrested during a drive on July 30 and handed over to Sreepur Police Station. Later, he was handed over to Rajarhat Police Station.

On Sunday, August 2 afternoon, Rajarhat Police sent the arrestee to a Kurigram court.

It was reported that Liakat Hossain Limon was active as the joint convener of the Mir Ismail Hossain College unit of 'Jatiya Chhatra Shakti', the student wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP).

Two others were also arrested in two separate cases during the same operation.

They are Rabikul Islam, 19, son of Mokhlesur Rahman of Kishamat Nakhenda village, an accused in a kidnapping case, and Akash Mia, 22, son of Abul Kashem of Chourangapur village under Mohanpur Police Station in Rajshahi, an accused in a theft case.

Rajarhat Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Atiqur Rahman, the investigating officer of the case, said 15 out of 28 accused in this murder case, including the main suspect and seven women, have been arrested so far.

Rajarhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamunur Rashid said, "The main accused was arrested with the help of digital technology and the cooperation of RAB-13. Operations are ongoing to arrest the remaining fleeing accused."

The victim's only son, Sakib, 18, an HSC candidate at Rangpur Government College, said, "My father was brutally murdered. I demand the immediate arrest of all the accused and maximum punishment."

According to police and case sources, a dispute had been going on between Zahidul Islam Jinnat and Zainal Hossain for a long time over land and a public road in Dangghat village under Umarmjid Union of the upazila.

On July 14, when Jinnat went to cultivate his land beside the disputed road using a tractor, an altercation broke out with the opponent.

At one stage, Zainal Hossain's son Liakat Hossain Limon struck him in the chest with a sharp spear.
He died on the way to Kurigram General Hospital in critical condition.

One day after the incident, the victim's elder brother Zainal Abedin filed a murder case with Rajarhat Police Station against 28 people as plaintiff.

The other arrestees in the case are Zainal Haq, 44, Rowshan, 42, Garibullah, 45, Rezaul Karim, 22, Riyad Ali, 19, Gowsul, 70, Naimul Islam Nayan, 18, Jinna Begum, 60, Nurbanu, 38, Lipi Begum, 37, Helena Begum, 37, Anowara Begum, 28, Ashfika Akhtar, 19, and Asha Moni, 20.
