Savar jute godown fire under control

A fire was brought under control by the fire service which broke out at a jute godown in Savar.

After nearly an hour of rigorous attempt, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control.

According to locals and eyewitnesses, a jute godown, owned by a local resident Hiron in West Bank Town area of Savar, caught fire on Saturday night around 9:30PM.

Panic spread in the area as flames threatened to spread to nearby homes.

However, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Savar Fire Service Senior Station Officer Jahangir Alam said the cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be determined immediately.

He added, two units of Savar Fire Service went to the scene and started working to control the blaze.

Two additional units were kept on standby considering the situation.

The fire was brought fully under control at around 10:30PM after a non-stop effort of nearly an hour by the two units.

However, the fire official stated that the cause of the fire and total damages will be known after an investigation.
