
PIROJPUR, July 4: The government is fully committed to ensuring press freedom and creating a media-friendly environment, BNP lawmaker from a reserved women's seat Sultana Jasmine Jui said on Friday.
Speaking at a courtesy meeting with journalists at the Pirojpur Press Club during her four-day official visit to the district, she said journalists can contribute to good governance by reporting objectively and constructively criticising government activities.
"The government welcomes responsible criticism, as it helps improve governance and public service delivery," she said.
The meeting, held at the press club's conference room, was attended by journalists from print, electronic and online media, who exchanged views with the MP on issues related to journalism and the media.
Pirojpur Press Club President SM Rezaul Islam Shamim welcomed the MP at the event.
Among those present were Pirojpur district BNP Convener Nazrul Islam Khan, Zila Parishad Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain, District BNP Member Secretary SM Saidul Islam Kismat, leaders of the party's associate bodies and local political leaders.
