Seven held with narcotics in three districts

Seven people, including a woman, were arrested with various narcotics in Habiganj, Khulna and Noakhali districts in two days.

HABIGANJ: The RAB-9 arrested four suspected drug dealers along with 55 kilograms of hemp and seized a pickup truck used to carry the drugs from a checkpoint on a paved road near Jagadishpur Bazar in Madhabpur Upazila of the district early Saturday.

According to a RAB-9 press release, the force received a tip at about 3:55 am that several people were transporting drugs in a pickup toward the Temunia area of Madhabpur. RAB stopped the vehicle at the checkpoint at about 4:25 am and arrested four people along with the hemp.

The arrestees are Bacchu, 37, and Javed Mia, 23, of South Surma in Sylhet; Md Badrul Islam, 38, of Sunamganj; and Khalil Ahmed, 21, of Moulvibazar.

RAB said the suspects told investigators they had collected the hemp from a border area and planned to sell it in different parts of Bangladesh.

A case under the Narcotics Control Act is being prepared against them. The arrestees and the seized items were later handed over to Madhabpur Police Station (PS).

KHULNA: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) have arrested two people along with 185 bottles of illegal syrups during a raid in Jashore District on Friday.

The arrestees are Md Mashiul Alam, 55, son of late Tafsil Uddin and Akhima Khatun, 43, daughter of Ajibor Rahman of Shankarpur Jamadarpara area, according to a RAB-6 press release issued on Saturday.

A team from the RAB-6 Jashore camp raided the area under Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station based on a tip-off and arrested the town along with 105 bottles of Wincerex and 80 bottles of Eskuf syrup.

A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against the two, and they and the seized items were handed over to police.

NOAKHALI: The District Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested a woman drug dealer along with 1 kilogram of hemp during a raid at her residence in the Poura Karimpur area of Ward No. 4 of Chowmuhani Municipality under Begumganj Upazila of the district on Friday night.

Noakhali Superintendent of Police NM Nasiruddin said the arrested Sabina Begum, 30, is the wife of Tajul Islam of the area. 

The District DB police said a case under the Narcotics Control Act against Sabina is being prepared with Begumganj Model PS.
