A Bangladeshi expatriate died of a suspected stroke in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after falling ill in an abandoned ground-floor room.
The deceased is Md. Shanto Ahmed (23).
Shanto, the only son of Abdul Kader from Kalikapur village in Chouddagram upazila of Cumilla, moved to Saudi Arabia for better employment opportunities.
He had recently joined Al Arid Residential Hotel in Riyadh as a cleaner, where he used to sleep in a vacant room on the ground floor.
Local sources said, Shanto was taken to a government hospital, where doctors declared him dead, reportedly due to a suspected stroke.
Fellow Bangladeshi migrants claimed the room where he stayed had poor ventilation and became suffocating during power outages, although authorities have not confirmed whether this contributed to his death.
Shanto’s death has left his family in mourning. Bangladeshi community members in Riyadh are working to complete the necessary procedures to repatriate his body.
His family has appealed to Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh and the Saudi authorities for assistance.
