PIROJPUR, July 5: A month-long cleanliness drive, tree plantation campaign and anti-drug awareness programme were launched in Pirojpur on Sunday to commemorate the July Uprising and honour those who sacrificed their lives during the movement.
The programme was inaugurated at the Zila Parishad premises by Zila Parishad Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain, who attended the event as the chief guest. Zila Parishad Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Rurul Alam was present, along with local officials and community representatives.
The opening ceremony was followed by a cleaning campaign in and around the district headquarters, with the participation of volunteers from the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Scouts, Rover Scouts, political activists and local residents. Men and women of different age groups joined the initiative, carrying cleaning equipment and collecting waste from public spaces.
Organisers said the month-long campaign aims to promote a cleaner and healthier environment while encouraging greater public awareness of environmental conservation and social responsibility.
As part of the programme, tree saplings will be planted at various locations across the district throughout the month to increase green cover and help improve the local environment.
An anti-drug awareness campaign will also be conducted alongside the environmental initiatives.
Speaking at the inauguration, Principal Alamgir Hossain said the programme was intended not only to pay tribute to the spirit of the July Uprising but also to inspire people to contribute to the country's development through voluntary social initiatives.
Participants said keeping the town clean would help reduce the risk of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, while tree plantation would contribute to a healthier environment. They also reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the ideals of the July Uprising by working together for a cleaner, greener and drug-free society.
