KALAI, JOYPURHAT, July 5:  People with disabilities are not a burden on society; with proper support and opportunities, they can make meaningful contributions to the country's development, State Minister for Public Administration and Food Md Abdul Bari said on Saturday.

He made the remarks while distributing wheelchairs among 30 underprivileged people with disabilities at a programme organised by Al-Khair Foundation Bangladesh at the Kalai Upazila BNP office.

"The government is committed to ensuring equal rights and balanced development for every citizen. People with disabilities deserve equal opportunities to participate in all spheres of national life," the state minister said.

The wheelchairs were distributed under a humanitarian initiative undertaken by Al-Khair Foundation Bangladesh as part of its corporate social responsibility programme under the slogan, "Balance Without Compromise." The initiative aims to improve the mobility and quality of life of people with disabilities.

Among those present were Abdul Bari's wife, Nazma Ara Bari; Kalai Thana BNP Convener Md Ibrahim Hossain; Joint Conveners Md Mowdud Alam Sarkar and Tuku Chowdhury; Md Towfiq Hasan Bari; Officer-in-Charge of Kalai Police Station Rafiqul Islam; Officer-in-Charge of Khetlal Police Station Md Muttarul Alam; and local dignitaries.
