Socheton Shikkhok Samaj (Conscious Teachers' Society) on Tuesday demanded the immediate nationalisation of MPO-enlisted teachers and employees to eliminate ongoing discrimination in the education sector.

The demand was raised during a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club's Akram Khan Hall, presided over by the organization's convener, Prof. Abdul Awal.Speakers placed an eight-point charter of demands, seeking inclusion of MPO teachers and staff in the 9th National Pay Scale along with government employees, and a halt to posting government teachers at MPO-listed institutions.

Furthermore, they demanded the removal of "Awami collaborators" from the education ministry and affiliated boards, alongside ensuring their right to participate in local government elections.

Speakers sought the retirement age raised to 65 years, noting the existing limit was set considering an entry age of 35. They also demanded full festival, house rent and medical allowances, and prompt clearance of retirement benefits for retired teachers and staff.

They recalled BNP’s then opposition leader Khaleda Zia had promised nationalization of MPO teachers’ jobs in 2010, and urged Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to fulfil that pledge.

Speakers warned of a movement if the demands are not met by July 31.
