
World Habitat Day was observed in districts, including Gopalganj and Narayanganj, on Monday with the theme “Adequate Housing for All” and with a call to reflect on the state of towns and cities and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter.
GOPALGANJ: On the occasion, the district administration and the Public Works Department (PWD) jointly brought out a rally from the front of the district administration office that paraded through several roads in the town and ended at the starting point.
Later, a discussion was held in the conference room of the district administration office, with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Arif-Uz-Zaman as the chief guest.
Speakers said sustainable cities must be developed to meet the needs of a growing population while reducing social inequality.
They said housing development in Gopalganj often takes place without adherence to planning laws and called for planned urban development that takes into account environmental protection, transportation, water bodies, disaster management and new technologies.
NARAYANGANJ: On the occasion, the PWD, with support from the Narayanganj Development Authority (NDA) and the district administration, brought out a rally from the district administration office that paraded through the Circuit House area and returned to the starting point.
Later, a discussion followed at the DC office conference room with DC Md Raihan Kabir in the chair while NDA Chairman Masukul Islam Rajib attended as the special guest, along with Additional DC (General) Naima Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Md Sohel Rana and PWD Executive Engineer Harunur Rashid, among others.
NDA Chairman Masukul Islam Rajib said coordinated efforts and long-term planning were essential to achieving planned urbanisation.
