Three people were killed in separate incidents in Naogaon, Jashore and Pabna districts in two days.
NAOGAON: An 80-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a 19-year-old over a dispute involving a goat eating leaves from a bean plant in Atrai Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 9:30 am in Madhugurnai Village. Police recovered the body at noon and sent it to Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
According to the victim’s family and eyewitnesses, Yasin Mondal confronted Meem Hossain after Meem’s goat ate leaves from his bean plants.
The argument escalated, and Meem allegedly punched and kicked Yasin, causing him to collapse. He was taken to Atrai Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead. Doctors said they found no obvious external injuries on the body.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atrai Police Station (PS) Mahbub Alam said the cause of death would be confirmed after the autopsy and that Yasin’s family was preparing to file a murder case.
JASHORE: A man suspected of cattle theft died on Monday after being beaten by a mob in Chougachha Upazila of the district, police said. Mizanur Rahman, 40, from Batkemari Village in Kushtia District, died at about 8 am while undergoing treatment at Chougachha Upazila Health Complex.
Police and local residents said three men were found around 3:30 am on Monday attempting to break the lock of a cowshed at Idris Ali’s home in Bagardari Village. After residents raised an alarm, two men fled, while Rahman was caught and allegedly beaten by locals.
Police rescued Rahman in critical condition and took him to the health complex, where doctors said he likely died from internal bleeding caused by severe injuries. His body was sent to Jashore General Hospital for an autopsy.
Chougachha PS OC Mamunur Rashid said one person has been taken into custody for questioning and legal action is underway.
PABNA: Miscreants have hacked a drug-addicted youth to death in Beel Bhaduria Village of Malanchi Union in Pabna Sadar Upazila on Sunday.
The deceased Sumon Hossain, 32, was the son of Rabiul Islam from the village.
Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Sakhawat Hossain confirmed the incident.
He said that police were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the report. The victim’s father mentioned that he was a drug addict.
However, the motive behind the killing and the identities of the perpetrators could not be immediately ascertained. Police are working to gather details about the incident and identify those involved.
