A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced H.M. Rashed Sarkar, a junior licensing inspector of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), to five years rigorous imprisonment for taking a Tk100,000 bribe to facilitate a pilot licence conversion and examination.

Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-5 also fined the convict Tk100,000.
According to the prosecution, Rashed demanded the bribe after cancelling the online application of commercial pilot Rakib Hasan, who sought to convert his Philippine Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) into a Bangladeshi licence.

Following a complaint, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested him red-handed with the bribe money during a sting operation at a restaurant in Uttara on December 6, 2019.
