Tk 10.9m Gold Seized in Jessore
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a young man with gold bars worth an estimated Tk 10.9 million from the Daitala area on the Jessore-Narail highway.
The arrestee, Toufikur Rahman, is the son of Abdul Majid of Swarupdaha village in Sharsha Upazila. He was detained on Thursday and later handed over to Jessore Kotwali Police Station.
According to Lt Col Golam Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan, commanding officer of the 49 BGB Battalion, a BGB team acted on a tip-off that gold was being transported from Dhaka for smuggling into India through the Benapole border.
The team intercepted Toufikur in the Daitala area and recovered four gold bars and one half bar, weighing a total of 535 grams, concealed on his body.
BGB also seized a mobile phone and Tk 1,370 in cash from his possession.
A case has been filed and the accused was handed over to Jessore Kotwali Police Station for further legal action.
