Dhaka records highest rainfall of 175mm in 24 hours

Dhaka recorded the country's highest rainfall of 175 millimetres in the last 24 hours, while the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in six divisions over the next 24 hours.

The forecast was issued on Sunday by BMD meteorologist SKM Nazmul Haque.

According to the weather office, by 6:00 pm on Monday (July 13), most areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, as well as many places in Khulna and Barishal divisions, are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Moderate to very heavy rainfall is expected at places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Day temperatures may fall slightly, while night temperatures may rise slightly across the country.

For the following 24 hours from Monday evening, the BMD forecasts rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds in most areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions and many places in Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Moderate to very heavy rainfall is likely at places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions. Day temperatures may increase slightly, while night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

From Tuesday evening (July 14), many places in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and some areas of Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely at places in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, while both day and night temperatures may rise slightly.

The forecast for Wednesday (July 15) indicates rain or thundershowers in many areas of Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected at places in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram, with day and night temperatures likely to remain nearly unchanged.

A similar weather pattern is expected for the 24-hour period beginning Thursday evening (July 16), with rain or thundershowers forecast across much of Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and isolated areas of the remaining divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in parts of the southern divisions, while temperatures are expected to remain almost unchanged nationwide.
