The United States has launched new airstrikes in Iran's western region, near the borders with Iraq and Kuwait, amid the ongoing fierce conflict, the country's state news agency IRNA confirmed, citing Valiollah Hayati, deputy governor of Khuzestan province.
The attacks on Tuesday (July 14) targeted two strategically important cities in Khuzestan province, including the port city of Mahshahr and the historic city of Abadan, home to the Middle East's oldest oil refinery.

Iran's Fars News Agency reported that the first strike hit the city of Abadan at 1:25 p.m. local time. The second strike was carried out in the neighboring city of Mahshahr just five minutes later, at 1:30 p.m. (10:00 GMT).
News of this new and major airstrike from the United States came amid intense fighting between the two sides in the border area.
