India has expressed strong condemnation and deep concern over the recent attacks on two oil tankers, 'MT Al Bahiyah' and 'MT Mombasa', in the Strait of Hormuz, in which one Indian sailor was killed and 10 others were injured.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that out of the total 46 sailors on board the two affected ships, 30 were Indian nationals. Out of the 12 Indians on board the 'MT Al Bahiya', one died and one was injured. On the other hand, out of the 18 Indians on board the 'MT Mombasa', nine were injured, two of whom are in critical condition.

Following this incident, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi this morning and lodged a strong protest against the attack.

The statement said that these attempts to target civilian seafarers and disrupt free and safe navigation in international waterways like the Strait of Hormuz are completely unacceptable. Expressing deep concern over the renewed attacks and escalation of conflict in the West Asia (Middle East) region, India called for an immediate cessation of violence. At the same time, all parties have been requested to return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy in the interest of peace, security and stability in the region.

The Ministry of External Affairs further said that Indian missions and posts in the UAE are closely monitoring the overall situation. They are in constant touch with the local authorities to ensure all necessary assistance to the affected and undergoing treatment Indian sailors. Dawn
