Tree fair, plantation begin in Feni

FENI, July 15: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Feni Monira Haque inaugurated a week-long tree plantation drive and tree fair by cutting ribbon and releasing balloons as the chief guest on Tuesday morning.

Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out from Mizan Maidan in the town that paraded through various important roads of the town and ended on Zahir Raihan Hall ground. A total of 20 stalls have been set up in this year’s fair where various species of domestic and foreign fruits, forest and flower seedlings have been brought for display and sale.

After the rally, a discussion meeting was held on Zahir Raihan ground chaired by Feni Divisional Forest Officer Mohammad Ruhul Amin, while Additional Superintendent of Police Saidur Rahman, Additional DC (General) Al Amin Sarkar, Deputy Director of Feni Department of Agricultural Extension Mohammad Atiq Ullah and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sultana Nasrin Kanta were special guests.

Red Crescent Society General Secretary Salah Uddin Mamun, Feni Sadar Forest Division Range Officer Babul Chandra Bhowmik, District Saw Mill Owners Association President Mozammel Hossain Chowdhury (Amir) and Nursery Owners Association President Abu Bakkar Siddique were present at the event. Cultural organiser Mahtab Sohel moderated the event and invited guests delivered welcome speeches.

In her speech, DC Monira Haque laid special emphasis on planting trees to maintain environmental balance. 

It is worth noting that this fair organised on the Zahir Raihan Hall ground will be open to the public every day from morning to evening. In addition to quality seedlings at affordable prices, the fair is also providing facilities for visitors to get advice on tree care.
