BANDARBAN, July 17: The popular Devotakhum tourist destination in Bandarban's Rowangchhari Upazila has been closed to visitors from July 16 to July 20 following damage caused by recent flooding and heavy rainfall.
The decision was announced in a notice signed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Taslim Alam Tuli on Wednesday.
According to the notice, continuous rainfall has swollen rivers, streams and waterfalls across the district, triggering floods and landslides in several areas. The adverse weather has also caused significant damage to infrastructure at the Devotakhum tourist site.
It added that, based on a safety assessment by the local administration, travel to and stay at the tourist destination remain risky under the current conditions.
In the interest of public safety, the tourist spot will remain temporarily closed until July 20.
The administration also urged all concerned to take necessary precautionary measures and strengthen monitoring to prevent any untoward incidents during the closure.
