The programme began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a special prayer seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyrs. A one-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect.
Hon’ble Georgios Kotsos, Member of Parliament and Chair of the Greece-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Group, attended the event as the special guest. In his remarks, he highlighted the growing friendship between Greece and Bangladesh and emphasized the importance of democratic values in strengthening bilateral relations.
Professor Erato Chatzisavva, Rector of the Athens School of Fine Arts, attended as the keynote speaker and expressed solidarity with the people of Bangladesh. She reflected on the universal significance of sacrifice, justice and democratic aspirations.
Ambassador of Bangladesh to Greece Mrs Nahida Rahman Shumona read out the messages issued by the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh on the occasion. In her speech, the ambassador paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and highlighted the importance of July Martyr Day in Bangladesh’s contemporary history.
The observance concluded with a tree plantation ceremony on the embassy premises, symbolizing renewal and the lasting legacy of the martyrs. The event was attended by diplomats, academics, journalists and members of the community.
