Four more people have died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, although no death was confirmed from measles during the period, according to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released on Saturday.
The DGHS said 74 new measles cases were confirmed through tests in the 24-hour period from 8:00am Friday to 8:00am Saturday. Besides, 699 people showed symptoms suspected to be related to measles.
According to the report, a total of 689 people have died with measles-like symptoms since March 15, while 95 deaths have been confirmed as measles-related during the same period. The combined death toll from confirmed measles and suspected measles cases now stands at 784.
Among the four latest deaths, three were reported from Sylhet Division and one from Dhaka Division.
The health authorities said the number of suspected measles cases has reached 116,710 across the country since March 15. Of them, 14,318 cases have been confirmed as measles through laboratory tests.
During the same period, 99,249 patients were admitted to hospitals, while 95,529 patients have recovered and been discharged, the DGHS added.
