No outsiders allowed at DU during world cup final

The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have imposed restrictions on the entry of outsiders and vehicle movement on the campus ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final to ensure the safety of students and the overall security of the university area.

The restrictions will remain effective from 6:30pm on Sunday (July 19) until 6:00am on Monday (July 20), according to an emergency notice issued by the DU Proctor’s Office on Saturday.

As per the notice, during the restricted period, entry to the campus will be controlled for all guests except DU teachers, students, officers and employees.

Only vehicles displaying official university stickers will be allowed to enter through the main campus gates, including Shahbagh, Doel Chattar, Shib Bari Crossing, Fuller Road and Nilkhet.

However, some exemptions have been kept for emergency and essential services. Ambulances, doctors’ vehicles, patient-carrying vehicles, journalists’ vehicles, ride-sharing services, food delivery vehicles, online shopping delivery vehicles and other government vehicles will be allowed to enter the campus.

Entry of all other vehicles will remain strictly controlled, the notice said.

The university authorities also mentioned that the road from Palashi through Doel Chattar to the High Court intersection will remain open for movement despite the restrictions. However, public transport and heavy vehicles will continue to face restrictions inside the campus area.
