Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Tuesday said most government primary school teachers want to be transferred to Dhaka, resulting in a large number of transfer requests at the ministry.
He made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting at the Primary Teachers' Training Institute (PTI) auditorium of the Directorate of Primary Education in Mirpur.
The meeting was organised with officials from government primary schools in Dhaka district on issues related to implementing "higher quality primary education".
The minister said the number of teachers seeking transfers is so high that he and State Minister Bobby Hajjaj often face difficulty entering their offices.
Explaining why the authority to transfer primary school teachers has been delegated to the upazila level, Milon said almost all teachers want to be posted in Dhaka.
The meeting was chaired by Primary and Mass Education Secretary Md Sakhawat Hossain and was attended by State Minister Bobby Hajjaj, Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Shahina Ferdousi and other officials.
