17 senior cops sent into forced retirement

The government has sent 17 more Superintendents of Police (SP) to Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) level officers to forced retirement from their service due to their closed connection and alleged involvement with the controversial polls held during the ousted Awami League government.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday issued a notification dismissing the officials from the service. Ministry’s Senior Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury signed the order.

The retired officers include three Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), 12 Additional DIGs and two Superintendent of Police (SP).

The officers are- Highway Police’s DIG Mohammad Abdullah Al Baki, CID’s DIG Mohammad Sarwar Hossain, Tourist Police’s Additional DIG Bidhan Tripura, Police Staff College’s Additional DIG Dr. AKM Iqbal Hossain, Sarda Police Academy’s DIG Md. Walid Hossain, APBn Additional DIG Soheli Ferdous, Sarda Police Academy’s Additional DIG Mohammad Tabarakullah, Rangpur Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman, Police Telecom’s Additional DIG Hasina Rahman, Department of Police’s Additional DIG Foysol Mahmud, Department Police’s Additional DIG Kaniz Fatima, Tourist Police’s Additional DIG Sultana Nazma Hossain, River Police’s Additional DIG Jesmin Begum, Dhaka TDS’s Police Super Abdur Rahim Chowdhury, CID’s DIG Sana Shaminur Rahman and Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Joint Commissioner Mosa. Farida Yasmin.

According to the order, the dismissal of their service would be effective immediately and they will be given their service benefits for the service period.

Earlier on July 6, the government sent 33 more senior officers of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) cadre to forced retirement.

The retired officers include 14 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), 18 Additional DIGs and one Superintendent of Police (SP).
Following the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August 2024 in the face of a student-led mass uprising, these officers were attached to various police units.

Among them, two are currently under arrest, while many others are absconding. During the Awami League administration, many of these officers held key positions in different police units.
