Khulna University has decided to bar male employees from working at the canteens of its two women's dormitories following allegations that a canteen worker secretly recorded videos inside a female students' hall bathroom.

The decision was taken at a series of meetings held by the university administration from Thursday morning until night to address the situation.

The university also cancelled Thursday's examinations and filed a case against the accused canteen worker, Md Imam Hasan, and his wife, Rupa Moni, at Harintana Police Station. The case was lodged by Acting Registrar Prof Dr SM Mahbubur Rahman on behalf of the university.

Following the filing of the case, the accused was produced before a court, which ordered him to be sent to jail.

The university formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident and asked it to submit its report within three working days.

The administration also cancelled the canteen allocation previously held by the accused, banned employees from carrying mobile phones inside the halls, and decided to introduce stricter operating guidelines for the canteens of Aparajita and Bijoy '24 women's halls. Under the new policy, no male employee will be allowed to work in the canteens of the two halls.

Responding to students' demands, the university also decided to reopen the investigation into sexual harassment allegations against Bangla Discipline Professor Dr Md Rubel Ansar, subject to the receipt of a review application.

The administration further said two separate investigations into allegations against suspended Agrotechnology Discipline Professor Md Rezaul Islam are ongoing and that the respective committees are expected to submit their reports within seven working days.

The university also extended the current term registration deadline without a late fee until August 4. Registration with a late fee will continue from August 5 to August 11.
