A 14-year-old boy named Nayeem Hossain was detained by locals and handed over to the police for reportedly attempting to rape a six-year-old child in Fulsara village under Sharsha upazila of Jashore.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning. The detainee, Nayeem Hossain, is the son of Abdur Rahman from Shikarpur village in Laxmanpur Union of the upazila.
According to police and locals, the child's father runs a grocery shop adjacent to his home in Fulsara village. On Thursday morning, he left his young daughter at the shop and went inside his home to have breakfast. Finding the girl alone, Nayeem entered the shop and attempted to rape her.
Later that night, when the child fell physically ill, her family questioned her, and she disclosed the incident.
Locals subsequently identified Nayeem by reviewing CCTV footage from the shop. They detained him, beat him up, and handed him over to the police.
Sharsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shaminul Haq stated that police rushed to the scene upon receiving the news and took the child into protective custody. Nayeem was arrested. Due to illness caused by trauma, the child received primary treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.
A case was filed with Sharsha Police Station regarding the incident (Case No. 31, Dated: July 23). Nayeem was sent to the Jashore court court custody on Friday morning.
