Three drown in Naogaon

NAOGAON, July 26: A couple and an elderly farmer have died in separate drowning incidents in Badalgachhi and Raninagar upazilas of the district on Sunday.

A husband and wife died while taking a bath in a ditch in Kartikahar Village of Badalgachhi on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased were Nur Islam, 22, son of Abul Kashem of Bedbaria Village in Gangni Upazila of Meherpur District and his wife Sumaiya Akhter, 18, daughter of Shahin of Kartikahar Village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Badalgachhi Police Station (PS) Muhammad Ruhul Amin said that Nur Islam first jumped into the water to take a bath in the ditch. After some time, his wife Sumaiya Akhter also jumped into the water but did not see him there. After that, both of them drowned. After some time, when the matter came to light, locals rescued them from the water and took them to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctors on duty declared them dead.

The OC also said that the bodies will be handed over to the family after the legal process is completed.

On the other hand, an elderly man died after falling into the beel water while returning home by boat after cutting grass for cow in Raninagar Upazila of the district on Sunday noon. 
Deceased Abdul Hossain, 65, was the son of late Ibrahim Ali of Daudpur Belobari Village in the upazila.

Quoting the family, Raninagar PS OC Zakaria Mandal said that on Sunday around 11 am, Abdul Hossain went to the Belobari Beel with his wife to cut grass. After cutting the grass, he was returning by boat and fell from it into the beel water. Hearing her wife’s screams, local people searched for him. Later, the Fire Service diving team rescued him after about two hours and took to Raninagar Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead. An unnatural death case has been filed with the police station in this incident.
