BAGERHAT, Aug 25: The district police arrested four people and seized 59 mobile phones with altered IMEI numbers in a raid on an alleged stolen-phone syndicate, officials said on Tuesday.
The suspects were arrested Monday night at Pushpa Telecom, a mobile servicing shop at Dakbungalow Mor in Fakirhat Upazila of the district, said Superintendent of Police Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabder.
Police said the phones were believed to have been stolen or snatched from members of the public and later had their IMEI numbers changed.
The suspects were identified as Rezaur Rahman Palash, 34, Md Hussain Khan, 34, Md Ohidul Islam, 26, and Chandan Saha, 30. They were sent to jail by a court on Tuesday, police said.
