The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has temporarily suspended approvals for additional international passenger flights by foreign airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, citing capacity constraints.

The restriction will remain in place until the airport’s third terminal becomes fully operational. CAAB said Shahjalal is currently handling around 316 aircraft movements daily, including international, domestic and cargo flights, placing heavy pressure on runways, terminals, immigration and baggage handling facilities.

To ease congestion, the authority has encouraged airlines to operate additional flights through Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport and Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport instead.
