The government plans to complete five local government elections, including union parishads, municipalities, upazila parishads, district councils and city corporations, by July next year, said Local Government State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said on Tuesday.
He said the discussions on the election schedule will be held with the Election Commission (EC) next week.
The state minister said this after meeting Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Møller at the Secretariat.
Shahe Alam said the EC itself will decide the dates and schedules for the elections.
Regarding his meeting with the Danish envoy, the state minister said Denmark has agreed to provide cooperation in managing the capital’s water supply system.
He also said Denmark will provide Tk 100 crore in assistance to support Rohingya refugees.
