Mirpur wall collapse: Health Minister assures free treatment for injured

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain visited the injured victims of a wall collapse in the capital's Mirpur. He assured them of all kinds of support.

He visited the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Dhaka on Tuesday, July 28 around 8:30PM. During the visit, he spoke with the relatives of the injured.

Talking to reporters about the treatment of the victims, he said the government will bear all treatment costs. He said instructions have been given to ensure the best possible care.

The minister said patients will not have to pay any hospital expenses. He added that a record will be kept of any medicine or medical supplies bought from outside.

The government will pay the full amount for these, he said. Cash has already been given to the patients to cover initial expenses, he said.

The wall collapse occurred around 1:30PM on Tuesday at Mirpur University College in the capital. One person died on the spot. Another died later at the hospital. Six people were injured in the incident.

Five of them are undergoing treatment at NITOR. One patient is being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The injured are currently said to be out of danger.

Reserved women's seat MP Ferdous Ara Mishty and hospital director Prof. Dr. Abul Kenan were present during the minister's visit.
