Ex-BRUR VC Kalimullah sought to be shown arrested

 
Former Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur (BRUR) Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah’s release from jail has been stalled as police sought to show him arrested in an attempted murder case filed with Uttara West Police Station.

The case’s investigation officer, SI Md Abu Sayeed, submitted the application on Tuesday. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain fixed Thursday for a hearing.

Kalimullah’s lawyer said his client secured High Court bail on June 14 in a corruption case and submitted the bail bond on Monday. However, his release was halted after police sought his arrest in the attempted murder case linked to the 2024 anti-discrimination movement.

Kalimullah has been in jail since his arrest in August last year in an ACC case over alleged embezzlement of funds from development projects at Begum Rokeya University. The High Court granted him bail subject to a Tk 100,000 bond and passport surrender.
