CHATTOGRAM, July 29: In a major breakthrough against organised crime in Chattogram, police on Wednesday arrested listed criminal Mobarak Hossain alias 'David Emon' along with four associates from the bordering area of Jhikargachha in Jashore while he was allegedly trying to flee to India.
A notorious figure in Chattogram's underworld, David Emon is accused in several high-profile cases, including murder, extortion and firearms-related offences. He was arrested following days of surveillance and a coordinated operation involving multiple police teams.
The arrestees were being brought to Chattogram, police sources said.
Chattogram Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Masud Alam said law enforcement agencies had long been trying to arrest Emon and had monitored his movements for the past seven days before launching the operation.
He said police also carried out another operation to arrest Raihan, one of Emon's key associates.
"He tried to flee after sensing the presence of police," the SP said.
The operation was jointly conducted by nine teams from Jashore Kotwali Police Station and the district Detective Branch (DB), he added.
Police said David Emon is an accused in the double murder of gangster Dhakaiya Akbar in the Patenga sea beach area on May 23, 2025. He is also one of the two key associates of fugitive gangster Boro Sazzad.
