Bangladesh will observe World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2026 today with nationwide programmes aimed at raising awareness, strengthening cooperation and protecting victims of human trafficking.

This year's United Nations theme, "Trapped Behind the Scam," highlights the growing threat of human trafficking linked to cyber-enabled online fraud and forced criminality.

The central programme in Dhaka will be jointly organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Counter-Trafficking in Persons Technical Working Group under the UN Network on Migration in Bangladesh, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with support from other UN agencies and development partners.

Senior government officials, diplomats, law enforcement representatives, migration experts and civil society leaders will discuss ways to strengthen anti-trafficking measures, enhance international cooperation and improve protection for survivors.

Across the country, awareness campaigns will educate people, particularly young people, migrant workers and vulnerable communities, about fraudulent overseas job offers and online recruitment scams. NGOs, community organisations and educational institutions will also organise rallies, seminars, debates, workshops and human chains to promote safe migration and cyber safety.
