Child among 3 dead in Tangail road accident

At least three people, including a child, were killed and 20 to 25 others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck in Madhupur, Tangail.
The accident occurred around 10:00PM on Thursday, July 30 in front of a restaurant near the Khan Filling Station in the Raktipara area along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
Local witnesses said buses carried extra passengers on Thursday night ahead of the two-day weekend.
A Maderganj-bound Crown Deluxe bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction. The truck sped away immediately after the crash.
Three people died on the spot. They were identified as Setu Akter, 22, Tajbir, 8, and an unidentified man, aged around 45.
On information, a team from the Madhupur Fire Service rushed to the scene and conducted rescue operations.
They recovered the three bodies and sent around 10 critically injured passengers to the Madhupur Upazila Health Complex.
Some of the severely injured were later transferred to Tangail General Hospital and Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) A K M Fazlul Huq and Madhupur Fire Service Station official Borhan Ali confirmed the accident.
They stated that the death toll might rise as several victims are in precarious condition. Efforts are ongoing to confirm the full identities of the injured.
Traffic movement on the highway was temporarily disrupted following the accident but was later restored. Police are attempting to identify and seize the runaway truck.
Meanwhile, tearful relatives gathered at the Madhupur Upazila Health Complex late into the night, mourning the loss and suffering of their loved ones.
