An endangered Bengal slow loris was rescued from a residential area in Patiya, Chattogram, on Wednesday.

The animal was rescued from Baidya Para in Haidgaon Union with assistance from the Forest Department, said members of Wildlife Rescue Team Bangladesh.

According to local residents, the slow loris was found at a house in the area on Tuesday night. The residents reportedly kept it in their custody, allegedly with the intention of selling it.

After receiving the information, members of Wildlife Rescue Team Bangladesh went to the spot with Forest Department officials and rescued the animal.

Naim Uddin Bijoy, founder of Wildlife Rescue Team Bangladesh, said the slow loris is an endangered wild animal and urged people to help protect the species.

He also urged people not to capture or sell wild animals that enter residential areas, but instead to inform the relevant authorities.

Emdadul Haque, range officer of the Patiya Range under the Chattogram South Forest Division, said the rescued slow loris would receive medical attention and be monitored until it recovers.

He said the animal would later be released into a suitable natural habitat once it is deemed fit for release.
