DU Prof Dipti Saha dies

Professor Dr. Dipti Saha of the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Dhaka has died. She was 58.

She fell unconscious on Friday (July 31) morning after food became lodged in her airway while having breakfast. 

Then she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where on-duty doctors declared her dead. 

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, expressed deep sorrow over her death.

In a condolence message, he described Dr. Saha as a distinguished teacher and researcher, saying her outstanding contributions to education and research would be remembered for years in Bangladesh's higher education sector.

The Vice-Chancellor prayed for the eternal peace of her soul and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.

Later on Friday afternoon, Dr. Saha's body was brought to the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, where teachers and students paid their last respects. On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Acting Registrar laid a wreath on her coffin.

Her funeral rites were later performed at the Postogola Crematorium in the capital.
