Tourist dies after falling into sea during parasailing in Cox’s Bazar

A tourist from Khulna died after falling into the sea while parasailing in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shouvik Roy.
The accident occurred at Dariyanagar on the Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive when the rope of a parasailing operation owned by a man named Farid snapped, according to Mahbub Alam, a beach worker of the Cox’s Bazar district administration.
Mahbub said a nine-member group from Khulna had travelled to Cox’s Bazar and were staying at Ocean View Paradise Hotel in Kolatoli. Shouvik fell into the sea while parasailing at Dariyanagar after the rope snapped.
He was rescued and taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead.
The body was still at the hospital when this report was filed. The victim’s friends and officials concerned were not available for comment.
The parasailing operation at Dariyanagar is owned by a man named Farid Ahmed. At least 10 tourists have reportedly been injured in various incidents there over the past two years.
There have also been allegations that some of those operating parasailing services are inexperienced and do not follow administrative directives and safety conditions.
Several tourists were injured in a parasailing accident in January 2024, prompting media reports over safety risks at the site.
Following the incidents, the administration announced a temporary suspension of parasailing operations. However, the activity resumed about a month later.
Another tourist was injured at the same parasailing operation in April this year.
