People are the true owners of Bangladesh, says State Minister Mir Helal

State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin has said the government’s primary objective is to ensure services and development for all citizens regardless of political affiliation, religion, caste or community.

He made the remarks while distributing relief among members of the NGO Pratyashi and flood-affected people at Gani Community Centre in Sarkarhat of Hathazari upazila on Saturday.

Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s directives, Mir Helal said the government assumed office on February 12, 2026, and the prime minister had instructed all service-providing agencies, ministers, state ministers, senior officials and political leaders to put public service first.

“The ordinary people of this country are its true owners,” he said, adding that ensuring their basic rights and providing services should be the primary responsibility of everyone.

Recalling the BNP’s past political struggles, the state minister claimed that leaders and activists of the party and its affiliated organisations had faced “inhuman” repression and persecution over the past 19 years.

He said BNP activists at different levels had continued to stand beside disadvantaged and distressed people despite political challenges and natural disasters.

“There is no discrimination in our politics. We want to stand beside and serve every Bangladeshi citizen, rising above political differences, religion and caste,” Mir Helal said.

Highlighting recent development activities in Hathazari, he claimed that more than 450 development projects had been initiated in the upazila during the government’s first 165 days, with around 380 already completed or nearing completion.

He also said the government was working to widen roads and reduce traffic congestion in Hathazari, where road and infrastructure conditions had been poor in the past.

The state minister sought cooperation from local residents to continue the development activities.

Later, he formally handed over relief assistance to members of Pratyashi and flood-affected residents.

Pratyashi Executive Director Monowara Begum chaired the programme. Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Muhammad Abdullah Al Mumin, local police officials, political leaders and prominent local residents were also present.
