Journo Bazlur Rahman’s  birth anniv today

The 85th birth anniversary of eminent journalist, veteran freedom fighter, progressive intellectual, and former editor of Dainik Sangbad, Bazlur Rahman, will be observed across the country today (Monday, August 3) with due respect.

Born on August 3 in 1941 in Mymensingh, Bazlur Rahman devoted his life to upholding secularism, democracy, and freedom of the press. He earned widespread respect for his principled journalism and steadfast commitment to truth and public interest.

To mark the day, Bazlur Rahman Foundation, authorities of Sangbad, journalists’ organisations, and various cultural bodies have arranged different programmes, including wreath-laying, memorial discussion, and tribute-paying.

Representatives are expected to pay homage at his grave at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard.

Bazlur Rahman played an active role during 1960s Mass Uprising, 1971 Liberation War, and movements against military rule and autocracy.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to journalism and the nation, he got posthumous Independence Day Award (Swadhinata Padak) in 2012.
