RAB-13 arrests prime accused in Lalmonirhat child rape case

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 has arrested Jibon Mia, 22, the prime accused in a case filed over the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat.

A team of RAB-13 conducted an operation based on intelligence information and arrested Jibon from Namatari village under Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila early Monday (3 August), said RAB.

Jibon Mia is the son of Aminul Islam of South Gubda Vitorkuti village in Aditmari upazila. He is also a cousin of the victim, according to RAB-13.

According to the FIR, the child, a student of a local madrasa, went out to play near her house on July 29. After returning from playing, she entered an abandoned house where Jibon allegedly took her into a tin-shed room and assaulted her. Later, the child informed her family members, and she was taken to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a case with Aditmari Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The accused had been absconding since the case was filed.

RAB-13 said its Crime Prevention Specialized Company (CPSC) launched an operation after collecting intelligence information and arrested Jibon from a house in Namatari village around 4am on Monday.

The arrested person has been handed over to Aditmari Police Station for further legal action, RAB said, adding that its operations against crimes including murder, kidnapping and rape will continue.
