The protests later spread over to different parts of the country. Now, identical situation has emerged in Jharkhand. The student movement has been ongoing from July 29.

According to the BBC, students have been protesting at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi against alleged irregularities by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

The protesters claim that these commissions have been conducting examinations with irregularities for years, adversely affecting the futures of thousands young people.

Earlier, allegations of malpractice surfaced after the results of the JPSC preliminary examination were announced. As a result, the main examination was postponed. When the controversy intensified, the state government handed the investigation over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). On July 22, JPSC Chairman L. Khiyangte resigned. Protesters gathered in Ranchi are now demanding that the investigation be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In addition to examination candidates, the protests have also seen the participation of student organizations affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM). On Sunday, student leader Devendra Nath Mahato announced that he would begin a hunger strike. He had previously contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the Ranchi constituency as a JLKM candidate.
