Red Crescent observes July Mass Uprising Day

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society observed July Mass Uprising Day on Tuesday with a discussion and remembrance programme at its national headquarters in the capital.

The event began with a minute’s silence in memory of those who lost their lives during the July Uprising, followed by prayers, recitations from holy scriptures and the national anthem.

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Chairman and the Prime Minister’s Human Rights Adviser, Md. Abdus Salam, attended the programme as the chief guest.

In his address, he paid tribute to the July Uprising martyrs and stressed the importance of upholding the seven fundamental principles of the Red Crescent in serving humanity. He said the sacrifices made during the uprising had strengthened the nation’s sense of responsibility, human values and national consciousness.

He also recalled the contributions of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, saying their vision of an inclusive and united Bangladesh reflected the spirit of the July Uprising.
