Coast Guard rescues 18 fishermen after boat breaks down at sea

The Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 18 fishermen after their fishing boat developed an engine failure and drifted in deep waters off the coast, officials said on Wednesday.

According to Coast Guard Media Officer Lt Cmdr Sabbir Alam Sujan, the fishing boat FB Nishan-2 was returning to shore on Tuesday after fishing when its engine failed about 10 nautical miles from the Sangu Gas Field.

After receiving a distress call through the national emergency service 999, the Coast Guard vessel Shyamol Bangla launched a rescue operation and safely recovered all 18 fishermen along with the disabled boat.

The rescued fishermen were provided with first aid and food before the boat was handed back to its owner.

The Coast Guard said it would continue such rescue operations to ensure the safety of fishermen in coastal and offshore waters.
