Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will decide whether to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi in September, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam said on Thursday (August 6).
She made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the evening.
Shama Obaid said Bangladesh, as the current chair of BIMSTEC, is interested in participating in BRICS, a multilateral organisation.
“The decision will depend on the prime minister’s schedule and availability,” she said.
India has invited the prime minister to attend the outreach session of the BRICS summit and has also extended an invitation for a bilateral visit, she said.
Asked whether the invitations remain valid, the state minister said, “The invitation is there.”
