Govt working for drug-free society, hunting talent from roots: Aminul Haque

State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque stated that the government is working to build a healthy, drug-free society through sports while hunting talent among adolescents at the grassroots level.

He emphasized that sports should not be viewed merely as entertainment, but established as a profession. This approach will keep the young generation away from drugs and social degradation.

He made these remarks while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of the Jhenaidah Zila Parishad Gold Cup Football Tournament 2026 at Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Stadium in Jhenaidah on Saturday afternoon (August 8).

Aminul Haque said, "We want to build a healthy nation and a drug-free society through sports. We aim to restore our morality and social values through sports." He called upon everyone, regardless of party affiliation, to work together to achieve this goal.

Outlining plans to develop players from the grassroots, the State Minister noted that efforts are underway to turn sports into a profession and discover teenage talent. Work has also begun to establish one playground in each of the country's 4,599 unions.

Regarding sports infrastructure development in Jhenaidah, he announced plans to construct a Sports Village in the district as part of an initiative to build ten such facilities in ten districts during the current fiscal year. Additionally, the existing district stadium will be transformed into a modern facility with a full gallery.

Addressing demands for a swimming pool in Jhenaidah, Aminul Haque noted that 22 districts currently have swimming pools. The government plans to build swimming pools in all 64 districts gradually, including Jhenaidah.

He added that in accordance with the government's election manifesto, there are plans to build Sports Villages with international-standard indoor stadiums across all 64 districts. Ten Sports Villages will be constructed in the first phase during the current fiscal year.

Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Prime Minister's Political Assistant Md. Rashed Khan, and Jhenaidah District BNP General Secretary Md. Jahiduzzaman Mona also spoke at the event.

Jhenaidah Zila Parishad Administrator and District BNP President Md. Abdul Mazid presided over the ceremony.
