Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Chattogram tomorrow to oversee rehabilitation efforts and distribute assistance among people affected by the recent floods.

Preparations have been completed at seven venues across Banshkhali, Fatikchhari and Hathazari, the district administration said.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian today ( August 8) inspected several venues in Fatikchhari and Hathazari to review last-minute preparations and security arrangements.

According to the itinerary, the prime minister will first visit Banshkhali before flying to Fatikchhari by helicopter. He will then travel by motorcade through Hathazari to Chattogram city.

The DC first inspected the helipad built at Pela Gazi Dighi field in Fatikchhari. He reviewed security arrangements at the helipad and along the adjoining roads and issued necessary directives to the officials concerned.

He then visited Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Uloom Babunagar Madrasa, where the prime minister is scheduled to meet Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari.

He  spoke with the madrasa authorities and reviewed their preparations.

Later, Zahidul inspected the field adjoining Hathazari Government College, where the prime minister is scheduled to distribute financial assistance, food and rehabilitation support among flood-affected people.

During the visit, newly built houses are also expected to be handed over to flood-hit families in Banshkhali and Hathazari.

The DC concluded his inspection at the Chattogram Zila Parishad Dak Bungalow in Hathazari, where the prime minister is scheduled to plant a neem sapling.
“Preparations at all the venues have been completed. We are now reviewing the final arrangements,” Zahidul told reporters after the inspection.

Police, Rapid Action Battalion, Border Guard Bangladesh, Special Security Force and intelligence agencies are working together to ensure security during the visit, he said.
“All necessary measures have been taken to ensure the prime minister’s safe and uninterrupted movement,” the DC added.

This will be Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first visit to Chattogram since assuming office as prime minister, according to the district administration.

The district and upazila administrations, law enforcement agencies, intelligence bodies and other government departments are coordinating to ensure the programmes are held smoothly.
