Pipeline leak cuts gas supply in Noakhali

Due to a pipeline leak, gas supply has taken a massive hit in the entire Lakshmipur district and other parts of Noakhali as well.

Supply has been suspended following a leakage in Kendurbag area under Begumganj upazila.

The supply disruption has left nearly 7,500 domestic consumers and four CNG refueling stations without gas.

Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited sources said the leak was detected on Saturday night in an underwater pipeline beneath a bridge along the Lakshmipur-Noakhali highway. Authorities suspended the supply immediately as a safety precaution.

The outage has caused severe distress to residents in Lakshmipur, forcing households to stop cooking. Transport operators and commuters also faced major hurdles due to the closure of CNG stations.

Repair work began on Sunday morning (August 9). However, company officials noted that fixing the underwater pipeline has proven technically challenging.

Engr Shah Alam, Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Bakhrabad Gas Noakhali office, confirmed that technical teams are working on-site to repair the damaged line.

He expressed hope that normal gas supply would be restored by midnight once the repair work is completed successfully.
