Mother alleges senior students abused, threatened fourth-grader in Khulna

The mother of a fourth-grade student of Khulna Public School and College has alleged that her son was threatened, physically abused and forced to provide money and drugs by unidentified senior students.
Layla Khatun, mother of Mohammad Ayman, a Class IV, Section D student, made the allegations at a press conference at Khulna Press Club on Sunday.
She alleged that three to four senior students had been threatening her son for nearly two months, forcing him to buy and consume drugs and smoke cigarettes.
According to her written statement, one of the students gave Ayman Tk 860 after school on August 2 to buy drugs. The boy later told his mother that the students had threatened to kill him if he disclosed the matter.
Layla claimed that Ayman had given the students around Tk 100,000 in cash and two gold rings weighing six annas at different times.
She said the family informed the school principal and teachers, who assured them of his safety.
However, Layla alleged that on August 3, during the tiffin break, the students took Ayman to a third-floor washroom and demanded drugs. When he failed to provide them, they allegedly attacked him with a knife, cutting his shirt and trousers, but causing no physical injury.
She further alleged that the students threatened to kill him and demanded Tk 50,000 and 10 yaba tablets for the following day.
The family later filed a written complaint with Khalishpur Police Station after the school authorities allegedly refused to show them CCTV footage, she said. The complaint is under investigation.
Layla also alleged that other junior students had been physically and mentally abused, extorted for money and forced to bring drugs by senior students. She claimed some students from Classes IX to XII were involved.
The school, however, said an investigation committee formed following the complaint found no evidence that Ayman had been taken to a washroom and assaulted during the August 3 tiffin break.
In a press release signed by Principal Lt Col Munir Abbas (PSC, Public), the school said a blade and a mobile phone number were found in Ayman’s schoolbag. The number, allegedly linked to the demand for Tk 50,000, belonged to his step-uncle, it said.
The institution said an inquiry was conducted across 18 sections from Classes IX to XII. Ayman was shown still photographs from the college magazine and computers but could not identify anyone.
The school said a detailed investigation into the complaint is continuing.
