How could Major Sadik burn car while in jail? Court seeks police explanation

A Dhaka court has sought an explanation from the officer-in-charge(OC) and the investigating officer of Bhatara Police Station over inconsistencies in a petition seeking to show Major Md Sadikul Haque as arrested in an anti-terrorism case involving the burning of a private car.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam on Monday directed OC Mazharul Islam and investigating officer SI Md Chand Ali to explain the matter by (August 16).

The case concerns a car allegedly set on fire in the Bashundhara area of Bhatara on (November 11)2025. During Monday’s hearing, Sadik’s lawyer informed the court that the major was in jail at the time of the incident.

According to the prosecution, the court questioned how Sadik could have been involved in the incident while he was incarcerated and sought an explanation from the OC and the investigating officer.

The investigating officer had sought to show Sadik arrested as a suspect, claiming that investigation had found his direct and indirect involvement in the arson. The application also alleged that the incident was linked to a “complete shutdown” programme announced by banned organisations.

Sadik has been in jail in connection with another anti-terrorism case. He was dismissed from the Bangladesh Army by a military court on (October 29) 2024 and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
