A section of doctors and students has entered the office of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Director Brig Gen Asaduzzaman and staged a sit-in there, demanding his resignation.
They chanted different slogans calling for the removal of the director.
Meanwhile, a group of the hospital’s third and fourth-class employees gathered outside the director’s office to submit a memorandum seeking justice over the alleged assault of a staff member on Monday and action against those responsible.
The employees said they were unable to submit the memorandum because of the doctors’ sit-in.
At about 12noon, a group of doctors and students entered the director’s office and began chanting different slogans, including ''One point, one demand, the director’s resignation.''
They subsequently took up a position inside the office.
The protest reportedly stems from an ongoing dispute over the transfer of hospital Administrative Officer Rezaul Islam. Under an order issued by the Directorate General of Health Services, Rezaul Islam was transferred to Mymensingh, while Mymensingh’s Administrative Officer Mozammel Haque was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
