BGB seizes goods worth Tk 202.63cr

Border Guard Bangladesh seized smuggled goods and contraband worth Tk 202.63 crore in drives across the country in July, recovering everything from gold and narcotics to mobile-phone parts, pharmaceuticals and weapons, the force said.

The seizures reflect the breadth of the smuggling trade along Bangladesh’s borders, where traffickers move both high-value goods and everyday commodities through informal routes.

Among the most valuable items seized were 4.254 kilograms of gold, 216 diamond nose pins and 7.93 kilograms of silver. The BGB also confiscated thousands of pieces of clothing, including 13,063 sarees, 2,710 three-piece dresses and 8,886 readymade garments, along with 2,416 metres of cloth and more than 15,500 pieces of imitation jewellery. More than 302,000 cosmetic items were also seized. The haul included a wide range of other goods: 624 mobile phones, 4,360 mobile displays and 36,170 mobile-phone components, as well as timber, coal, tea leaves, food items, fertiliser and agricultural products.
Among the food commodities seized were 47,776 kilograms of cumin, 42,931 kilograms of garlic, 13,329 kilograms of sugar and 12,486 kilograms of fertiliser.
